Half-dead is a comic about a quasi-post-apocalyptic world in which humans and zombies co-exist. A few years ago there was a worldwide outbreak of a zombie virus. Inevitably, panic and chaos ensued for a while, inciting an all-out civil war between humans and zombies. Then, the government stepped in and revealed an experimental anti-zombie vaccine they’ve been working on. They began testing the vaccine on some of the infected with a bit of success.

However, because the anti-virus was just in the early stages, it only works halfway. Recipients of the vaccine maintain their human personalities, but they still have some zombie-like symptoms. Their bodies are still decomposing and they still have cravings for human flesh. Still, it’s a better alternative. Since this process took a while to effect a good majority of the population, rampant segregation and oppression ensued.

Osiris Laboratories (the pharmacuetical corporation that created the anti-virus) decided to capitalize on the growing zombie population by teaming with the government to end the segregation. They developed a synthetic, organ-based food alternative that is sold at zombie-specific restaurants and supermarkets and started the Sponsor a Zombie campaign in which a human can take a loved one that has been infected to control centers and ensure that they receive their shots and get frequent check-ups to keep them from going full-on zombie. Since then, humans and zombies have been living together harmoniously, minus a few unchecked zombies lurking around.

Half-dead focuses on the daily lives of Chuck (a high-functioning zombie) and his best friend/sponsor Eddie.

Chuck is adjusting to his new zombie lifestyle. He works at McDonor’s (a zombie-specific fast food restaurant). Chuck is also a bourgeoning fan of zombie music, movies, games, and porn. Yes. Zombie porn. We go there.

Aside from bartending at Floyd’s, Eddie is also Chuck’s caretaker. Sponsoring a zombie isn’t easy. Can you imagine having to clean up after one? Eddie’s biggest challenge in life is keeping Chuck under control.

It’s gonna be one crazy ride.

Enjoy!
